How it all started...

​

In early August 2020, Hurricane Isaias made landfall in the Bahamas as a Category 1 hurricane. Floridians anxiously followed weather updates, bracing for impact. Fortunately, unlike Hurricane Ian, Florida was spared as Isaias brushed the coast and moved toward North Carolina, bringing strong winds, storm surges, and tornadoes. The storm left behind more than $4.8 billion in damage, with the Northeastern United States hit hardest—making it the costliest tropical cyclone to strike the region since Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

After the storm had passed, long-time friends Nate Fincher and Chris Johnson gathered their families for a casual pizza night by the pool. As they reflected on the storm, Nate shared an idea: a mobile app where users could make and track their own weather predictions. It would not only be a fun and interactive way to engage with forecasting but could also play a crucial role in storm preparedness and even serve as a platform for disaster relief donations. Excitement grew as ideas flowed, and by the end of the night, one thing was clear—Weather Champs® was born.
