THE HURRICANE GAME

1. Overview

The Weather Champs® Hurricane Season 2025 Game (“Game”) is a seasonal, skill-based contest in which participants make predictions about hurricane activity in the Atlantic Basin. The Game is hosted within the Weather Champs® mobile application and is open to eligible users who purchase entries via Play Passes during the official entry window.

2. Eligible Storms and Scope

The Game applies only to hurricanes that form in the Atlantic Basin during the 2025 hurricane season. Any storm systems that originate outside the Atlantic Basin are not included in scoring or evaluation.

3. Predictions and Scoring Criteria

Each participant makes predictions for four (4) seasonal outcomes:

1. Total number of named storms

2. Total number of hurricanes

3. Total number of Category 3 or higher (major) hurricanes

4. The highest wind speed (in mph) achieved by any storm during the season

 

4. Entry and Play Passes

• To participate, users must purchase Play Passes within the Weather Champs® app.

• Each Play Pass grants one (1) seasonal prediction entry.

• Users may purchase an unlimited number of Play Passes to make multiple entries.

• Play Passes may be purchased individually or in discounted bundles.

 

5. Entry Window

• The Game begins on June 1, 2025, the official start of the Atlantic hurricane season.

• The entry window runs from June 1, 2025 through August 15, 2025 at 11:59 PM local time.

• Users may edit or revise their predictions at any time during the entry window.

• Entries submitted after August 15, 2025 will not be accepted.

• Unused Play Passes will be retained and roll over the the following year's Hurricane Season.

 

6. Expert Forecasts for Educational Use

To assist participants in making informed predictions, Weather Champs® provides two educational seasonal forecasts:

• North Carolina State University Forecast

• Colorado State University Forecast

These forecasts are provided for informational and educational purposes only and are not used in any way to determine winners.

 

7. Scoring System

Each entry starts with a base score of 100 points. After the season ends:

• Each user’s prediction is compared to the final, validated observations for the four tracked outcomes.

• The absolute value of the difference (delta) between the user’s prediction and the actual observed value is calculated for each outcome.

• The sum of the four deltas is subtracted from 100 to determine the user’s base score.

  • Example:

    • Predicted Named Storms: 17 | Actual: 19 → Delta: 2

    • Predicted Hurricanes: 9 | Actual: 7 → Delta: 2

    • Predicted Cat 3+: 4 | Actual: 4 → Delta: 0

    • Predicted Max Wind: 131 mph | Actual: 141 mph → Delta: 10

    • Total Delta = 14 → Final Score = 100 – 14 = 86

 

8. Bonus Points

A bonus score is awarded based on how early the prediction is submitted during the 75-day entry window (June 1–August 15, 2025):

• Maximum bonus: 75 points, converted to a decimal (0.75)

• Each calendar day that passes reduces the bonus by 1 point

• Bonus is calculated as:
  (75 – days elapsed since June 1) ÷ 100

Example: A user entering on June 11 earns 65 bonus points → 0.65 bonus.
If their base score is 84, their total score = 84 + 0.65 = 84.65

8.1 Max Bonus Option

Users may purchase a Max Bonus at any time during the entry window. This guarantees the maximum bonus of 75 points (0.75) regardless of submission date for that prediction.

 

9. Determination of Winners

• At the conclusion of hurricane season (November 30, 2025), Weather Champs® will validate the final official season data.

• Validation and scoring may take up to five (5) business days following the end of the season.

• All eligible entries will be scored and ranked by total score (base score + bonus score).

• Top three (3) entries with the highest total scores will be declared winners.

 

10. Prizes

• 1st Place:
  A 2-night / 3-day stay at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel in Hollywood, FL (the guitar-shaped hotel).

  • Blackout dates apply

  • Travel to and from the hotel is the responsibility of the winner

  • Prize value is capped at the standard room rate for the most basic hotel room as listed on November 30, 2025

  • If booking exceeds that rate, winner pays the difference

  • Winner is responsible for all additional charges including parking, valet, incidentals, and other amenities

  • Weather Champs® is not affiliated with or sponsored by Hard Rock International

• 2nd Place:
  A Tempest at-home weather station

• 3rd Place:
  A $100 Amazon gift card

 

11. Legal Disclaimer

Prizes are non-transferable, non-refundable, and not redeemable for cash. Tropical Chasers, Inc. makes no warranties, express or implied, regarding the prize(s) and shall not be liable for any loss or damage incurred in connection with the use of any prize. All federal, state, and local taxes, and any other costs not specifically stated herein, are the sole responsibility of the prize winner.

Weather Champs® and Tropical Chasers, Inc. are not affiliated with or endorsed by the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel, Tempest, Amazon, or any other third-party brands or entities mentioned in these Official Rules. All trademarks are the property of their respective owners.

Participation in the Game constitutes full and unconditional agreement to these Official Rules, the Weather Champs® Terms of Use, and the Weather Champs® Privacy Policy, which are incorporated herein by reference and can be found within the Weather Champs® mobile application or website.

This Game and all related matters shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Florida, without regard to its conflict of laws principles. Any disputes arising under or in connection with these Official Rules shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Volusia County, Florida.
